A wealthy individual has revealed five key actions he takes at the airport prior to each flight—advice he believes could help the typical traveler save considerable sums of money.
Mark Tilbury, hailing from Oxfordshire, describes himself as a self-made millionaire and serves as the CEO of Model World LTD, Century UK LTD, and Tilbury Multimedia LTD, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The 56-year-old entrepreneur frequently offers insights into accumulating wealth and achieving success to his numerous social media fans, covering topics like establishing various revenue sources and financial guidance for younger individuals.
In a recent video uploaded to his Youtube channel, the entrepreneur highlighted a series of hacks to help save the average plane passenger money at the airport.
The exorbitant prices for meals and beverages, car parking, tax-free shopping, and some airport lounges create a substantial drain on travelers' finances even before they take off.
However, to steer clear of what he calls the "terminal trap," Tilbury offered these suggestions to help travelers minimize expenses at the airport and preserve more funds for their journey.
Snap a picture of your baggage
Capturing images of your baggage prior to check-in at the airport holds significant importance for several reasons, such as if your belongings are misplaced or taken without permission.

This basically assists you in recognizing your baggage, offers evidence of the items inside for potential claims, and can help in retrieving your possessions.
In the video, Tilbury mentioned: "Before checking in, I snap a photo of my baggage so I can reclaim up to $3,800 (£2,869) if it goes missing or ends up stolen."
Pack an empty water bottle
Carrying an empty water bottle to the airport enables travelers to remain hydrated during their flight without needing to pay for costly bottled water.
This approach also cuts down on plastic waste by enabling passengers to top up their bottles with tap water or at specified water stations, as Tilbury noted: "I refill mine past the security checkpoint to avoid buying expensive beverages."
Utilize a credit card for complimentary access to lounges.
As per Tilbury, travelers using a credit card may gain complimentary entry into airport lounges, allowing them to 'feast on snacks' prior to their departure.
Certain credit cards offer complimentary or reduced-price access to lounges, which could save you money both on entrance fees and purchases made inside the lounge. Therefore, it’s beneficial to inquire with your bank about additional ways to cut costs while still indulging in high-end facilities at airports.

Insert an Apple AirTag into your baggage.
Tilbury stressed the importance of purchasing an Apple AirTag - worth as little as £28 - and putting it into luggage so that it can be tracked 'in real time'.
Apple AirTags offer real-time tracking using the Apple Find My network, allowing passengers to monitor their bag's location even after it's checked.
This consequently offers peace of mind, particularly for flyers who are concerned about potential delays or misplaced baggage.
Email yourself important documents
In the video, Tilbury stated: "I send emails to myself with copies of my passport and travel documents so I have backups just in case I misplace them."
It’s equally important to send duplicates of your passport along with related travel materials—such as email confirmations, boarding passes, and itinerary details—to yourself. This way, you have a fallback option should your actual papers get lost, stolen, or ruined during your travels.
