Israeli Legal Experts Call for Global Action Against Hamas: Shurat HaDin Demands Reckoning

A pivotal panel during the Jerusalem Post’s 2025 Annual Conference, moderated by diplomatic correspondent Amichai Stein, convened three prominent figures on the legal frontlines of Israel’s ongoing struggle against terrorism and global prejudice: attorney Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, MK Simcha Rothman, and Adv. Yael Yativ.

Darshan-Leitner, who leads Shurat HaDin, stressed the importance of combating Hamas both on the battleground and within legal forums. She stated, "To ensure Israel triumphs against Hamas and secures the release of hostages...we must weaken the terrorist group by targeting its monetary foundations." She added, "Track the funds, focus on the finances, eliminate the funding."

Starting from October 7, Shurat HaDin has stepped up its legal efforts targeting those who support terrorism, such as the Palestinian Authority, charitable organizations in Qatar, and various cryptocurrency platforms. Darshan-Leitner committed to holding global bodies responsible for their betrayals and involvement. "We pursued the Red Cross for abandoning hostages... and also targeted UNRWA, which assisted Hamas by concealing rockets," she said. "They believe they cannot be touched, but this isn’t true."

Rothman focused on Israel’s domestic legal structure, pushing for substantial reforms in how the judicial system addresses terrorism. "Our approach to tackling terrorists remains stuck in time, as if it were still October 6," he stated.

The MK also pointed out a legal inconsistency regarding the prosecution of inciting genocide, observing that although such acts can be punished by death according to Israeli legislation, this penalty is rarely applied. "Should the U.S. begin enforcing charges for inciting genocide, then Qatar-sponsored mosques just five kilometers away would face significant scrutiny," he remarked.

Yativ recounted the poignant tale of an army veteran who received care at Assuta Ashdod Hospital. "We do not shed tears; instead, we show resilience," stated the soldier's parent. The panellists underscored a powerful sentiment: Israel's legal and ethical battle extends far beyond combat zones, necessitating bravery, ingenuity, and international responsibility.
