Sanju Samson's Bold Toss Call Pays Off in Thrilling Chase Win

Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR), expressed his happiness as his side finally vanquished their tendency to falter when chasing after defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets on Tuesday, May 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The team reached the target score of 188 runs in merely 17.1 overs, thanks largely to an outstanding performance by Vaibhav Suryavanshi who scored 57 runs off 33 balls.

Captain Samson also contributed significantly with a knock of 41 (31). And together they added 98 runs for the second wicket off 59 deliveries alongside Suryavanshi. Thanks to their efforts, Rajasthan secured only their second victory of the campaign after batting last in ten attempts. Following this triumph, an enthusiastic Samson expressed how relieved he was that his squad had managed to clinch a chase at last, noting that they generally preferred fielding first due to their inconsistent performance when pursuing targets.

Nevertheless, they proceeded to confront their fear and ultimately succeeded in overcoming their inner struggles.

“It feels great. Honestly, we were considering whether to bat first and establish a score. But I felt there was no point in holding back for this match. Given how aggressively people approach the powerplays nowadays, there isn’t much distinction between team qualities. The gap between victory and defeat is incredibly slim. We must take time to reflect thoroughly. Certainly, we believe we could have performed better. This isn’t just about luck; we’ve committed several errors. For our next outing, we aim to return with an improved mentality,” stated Samson during the post-game ceremony.

Moreover, the RR captain commended his bowlers for limiting CSK to a subpar total even after an impressive beginning.

"Our bowling lineup consists of very young players. We are without Jofra and Sandeep. However, the spirit and strategy displayed by these younger bowlers was quite encouraging. The future looks bright for them as they show great potential at their age. A significant amount of effort has gone into this development. Akash Madhwal has participated in just the past four matches. Shane Bond has been closely mentoring him. Rahul Sir and others have noticed his dedication and hard work. Everyone is delighted for him," he concluded.

CSK had their eyes set on surpassing 200, having reached 170/6 after 17 overs, with Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni still batting. Nevertheless, Akash Madhwal (3/29) and Tushar Deshpande (1/33) managed to restrict them towards the end, conceding only 17 runs in the final three overs. Madhwal was also recognized as the Player of the Match due to his outstanding performance.
