A former University of Alabama The track star and college records holder has passed away following a bout with cardiac arrest.
Eliud Kipsang, who hails from Kenya, experienced a cardiac event on June 6 and was promptly admitted to a nearby hospital. Washington state .

Kipsang previously held the collegiate record for the 1500 meters, finishing the race in 3 minutes and 33.74 seconds. This time remains among the top five quickest times ever recorded in NCAA history.
Even today, Kipsang retains three school records: the quickest indoor mile, the outdoor 1500m race, and the indoor distance medley relay. Additionally, he ranks among the top five in the indoor 3000m event and places within the top ten for both the outdoor 800m and 5000m races.
In 2021, Kipsang received the SEC Runner of the Year award during his second year. In his first year, he clinched the conference championship in the 1500m race and secured second place in the 800m event.
A twice-selected All-American, Kipsang also guided the Crimson Tide to their fourth SEC cross-country championship in 2022.
Upon graduation, Kipsang inked a pro running deal with Adidas Pro.
