Over 60 different clubs have competed in England's top-tier league since 1888 — however, among Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United, who stands above the rest?
It may come as a surprise that Liverpool lead the standings with 7332 points, whereas Tottenham occupy the lowest position among the traditional top-six clubs, sitting in eighth place with 5406 points.
The remaining members of the top six are positioned as follows: Arsenal sit in second place with 7148 points, Manchester United come fourth with 6733, followed closely by rivals Manchester City in fifth position totaling 5740. Meanwhile, London-based side Chelsea trail slightly behind them both at sixth spot having earned themselves total scoreline tallying up exactly five thousand four hundred seventeen(=5417). Bridging some noticeable point-gaps further down this elite ranking list we find historically stable club Everton occupying unexpectedly high third slot backed impressive accumulation reaching nearly seven thousands marks - precisely sixty-nine hundreds & seventeens (=6917), whereas another Premier League veteran outfit named Aston Villa currently holds firm grip over exact same numerical rank where their north-west counterparts stand now i.e., Fourth overall despite owning somewhat lower grand sum equal only unto Six Thousand Two Hundred Twenty-seven scores accumulated across campaigns till date.
Newcastle and Sunderland, the two major clubs in North East football, currently hold positions nine and ten respectively. Newcastle United lead the duo with 5186 points accumulated over time, whereas their local rivals Sunderland follow closely behind in tenth place with a total of 4560 points.
West Bromwich Albion, sitting in 11th place, hold the distinction of being the highest-ranked club not presently competing in the Premier League, having accumulated 4091 points throughout their history.
From the 10th to the 20th position, they're accompanied by several Championship teams, including Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County, and Sheffield United.
Bolton, sitting in 14th place with 3692 points, are the highest-ranked side not competing in either of the top two tiers at present. The next most successful current League One club from a historical standpoint is Blackpool, ranked 31st overall with 1527 points.
Beyond the midpoint, intriguing team names start appearing more frequently, highlighting contrasts between prominent and lesser-known sides, along with several clubs that have since undergone significant changes or ceased to exist altogether.
Crystal Palace hold the 38th-highest point total ever recorded in England’s top division, having accumulated 1118 points throughout their league history. Just behind them stand Bury, who amassed a total of 1017 points during their time in the competition.
They were forced to leave the Football League in 2019 after entering administration.
Notable entries also feature the formerly disbanded Wimbledon team – which reunited under a different moniker recently – placed at number 42, followed by Bradford Park Avenue at 54th position, Accrington FC ranking 55th, Darwen coming in at 61st place, and finally Glossop North End occupying the bottom spot at 65th overall after earning just 22 points throughout their season.
