Emma Raducanu Addresses Wimbledon Injury Concerns as Back Trouble Looms

The young player, who is 22 years old, experienced a back spasm during the pre-season and had another one right before the game. French Open , the lingering effects of which are still troubling her. It’s fine, honestly, I’m still handling it," stated the top-ranked Briton. "There are ups and downs for me. Last week in London, I managed to train quite a bit and it went well. I received plenty of therapy, but found myself rather stiff over the weekend. So, I took a break on one day and resumed training yesterday and today.

But it requires a significant amount of effort and it has many ups and downs. I am simply doing my best to handle it.

Raducanu conquered her needle phobia to undergo acupuncture at the French Open, and she is exploring this method along with other strategies suggested by her and her team to alleviate discomfort.

'Covering everything from acupuncture needles to soft tissues, including some muscle stimulation techniques, and even taping — I do it all,' she explained. 'It’s an ongoing process, but things seem to be going well today.'

It’s unfortunate timing for Raducanu, particularly since her health throughout the year has been commendable, but she finds herself grappling with an ongoing concern. However, she mentioned shifting swiftly from feeling frustrated to adopting a problem-solving mindset.

I dedicated Friday evening (following the loss to Zheng) to feeling down, being annoyed, and letting out some frustration," she explained. "I took Saturday and Sunday off and then decided on Monday to dive back into training with determination and prepare myself properly for the upcoming week. As a result, I had an excellent week of practice.

This week at the seaside will serve as a crucial indicator of Raducanu’s current fitness level, with her Eastbourne tournament set to kick off on Tuesday against American player Ann Li, who ranks 64th globally.
