Indian-Origin Huma Abedin Weds Billionaire Alex Soros: Shuttle Bus Romance Takes Flight

Huma Abedin, an Indian-born author who was a long-time assistant to Hillary Clinton, got married to Alex Soros, one of the five offspring of billionaire George Soros, at their residence in New York.

In an interview with Vogue regarding the wedding, Abedin spoke about it. revealed Even though their wedding ceremony was lavishly decorated, one of the most unforgettable moments was taking a shuttle bus to the venue after heavy rain the previous night and on that same day.

"The ground was damp and muddy, forcing us to walk carefully to avoid soaking the dress. There was only a short period when it seemed like it wouldn’t rain anymore. Since sitting wasn’t an option for me due to fear of wrinkling the dress, we all squeezed into a shuttle together," she explained.

Abedin mentioned that fashion legend and Vogue chief editor, Anna Wintour, kept her veil hanging on a hook and instructed the driver to depart before the rain began. Abedin further commented, “This not only prevented any anxiety leading up to the ceremony but also turned the entire scenario into something quite amusing.”

Abedin disclosed that she and Alex Soros intended to run off together, but their plans shifted during an engagement party jointly hosted by the ex-first lady and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She also mentioned that both Clinton and Wintour “told” them they should get married instead.

Born to an Indian father and a Pakistani mother, Abedin began working for the former first lady at the age of 19. The wedding guest list included Bill and Hillary Clinton, former US Vice President Kamala Harris, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Alexander Soros and Huma Abedin

In October 2023, the couple had their initial encounter at a gathering hosted by a mutual friend, which led to them starting a relationship soon thereafter. They became engaged by June 2024 when Soros popped the question during an intimate moment in their Manhattan home. "One day Alex purchased the engagement ring and later proposed over dinner at our dining table," Abedin shared with Vogue. "He presented the ring inside a takeaway container, playfully calling it 'dessert,'" she added.

To mark their marriage, they organized two celebrations. The initial event was a private affair hosted at Soros’s dad’s place in Southampton, attended by near relatives and dear ones who saw the signing of both the Nikah and Ketubah documents, respecting Abedin’s Islamic beliefs and Soros’s Jewish background.

Instead of presents, the couple asked attendees to contribute to Vow for Girls, an organization committed to assisting girls remain in education, decide when to get married, and mold their own destinies.
