When considering vehicles that closely align with the everyday transport needs of Indians, the Bolero brand naturally comes into focus. This rugged SUV has remained relevant for more than twenty years and holds the distinction of being the longest-running model from Mahindra still in production. Despite this longevity, it hasn’t seen significant upgrades until recently. Although Mahindra introduced the renamed TUV300 as the Bolero Neo, we'll set that development apart for another discussion. Excitingly, the next-generation Mahindra Bolero is preparing to hit showrooms soon.

The SUV’s test mules have been spotted several times already, with expectations pointing towards an August 15 debut—coinciding with India’s Independence Day this year. There’s buzz suggesting it might carry the name Mahindra Thar Sports. The all-new version promises impressive upgrades that would clearly distinguish it from rivals. Here are five key features generating excitement for its arrival:

Independent Rear Suspension
In earlier days, we saw the gradual disappearance of complex but meticulously designed independent rear suspension systems. When models like the Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Baleno were initially launched in India, they featured independent rear suspensions. But lately, such designs have been limited mostly to premium vehicles. It’s true—this type of setup delivers better stability and sharper handling compared to simpler alternatives. Interestingly, latest spy photos of the upcoming Mahindra Bolero suggest that this SUV too will adopt an independent rear suspension system.
Flush-Type Door Handles
Although several upcoming vehicles such as the Kia Seltos and Tata Curvv offer flush-mounted door handles, the feature stands out most impressively on the Mahindra XUV700. These sleek handle designs are also set to appear on the next-generation Bolero. Let’s hope they're equipped with automatic operation similar to those found on the XUV700.

Mahindra Scorpio-N-Like Instrument Cluster
Latest reports indicate that the upcoming Mahindra Bolero may adopt the instrument cluster from the Mahindra Scorpio-N. It’s believed that Mahindra will take this approach to manage costs effectively, since using the all-digital dashboard seen in the Thar Roxx would raise manufacturing expenses for the car.

Rugged Aesthetic & Commanding On-Road Demeanor
A Bolero simply can’t help but command attention on the road. The prototype models of Mahindra’s next-generation Bolero, recently spotted during testing, definitely make a strong visual impact. These vehicles feature sharp, boxy styling combined with an assertive posture. While it might seem bold to say so, their overall shape undeniably draws comparisons to the iconic Defender.
Panoramic Sunroof, Modern-Day Tech
The forthcoming 2026 Mahindra Bolero will reportedly come equipped with a panoramic sunroof similar to the one offered on the Thar Roxx. Additionally, it could include several high-end features borrowed from the Thar Roxx such as auto climate control, Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), an upgraded audio setup, a bigger infotainment screen, among others.
