Tata Harrier EV Launches Today: Key Details You Need to Know

Tata Motors is preparing to introduce the electric variant of its bestselling SUV, the Tata Harrier, later today. The vehicle was previously showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, where it garnered attention for being constructed using the acti.ev+ platform with plans to offer approximately 500 kilometers of realistic driving range. Equipped with a twin-engine all-wheel drive setup and numerous upscale amenities, this model positions itself as a formidable contender in the electric SUV segment, poised to compete head-on against models such as the Mahindra XUV.e9.

The Harrier EV retains the assertive and robust design of the initial model, featuring daytime running lights (DRLs) and headlights akin to those found in the internal combustion engine (ICE) variant. However, it boasts an updated front grille and bumper, which lend it a distinctive character. The car’s exterior is characterized by sleek lines, crisp folds, and sophisticated panels. It features a continuous LED DRL strip with striking illumination effects as well as uniquely styled turbine-blade alloy wheels, enhancing both its aerodynamic performance and modern look. Constructed using a monocoque frame sourced from the Land Rover D8-based OMEGA platform—co-developed with Jaguar Land Rover—the Harrier EV blends ruggedness with elegance.

Beneath the surface, the Harrier EV features a twin-engine configuration providing all-wheel drive with a maximum torque delivery of 500 Nm. According to Vivek Srivatsa, who holds the position of Chief Commercial Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), this SUV aims for an approximate real-world driving range of around 500 kilometers per full charge, thereby tackling typical worries about limited travel distance. Further specifics regarding the battery haven’t been revealed as of now.

This model also represents a significant achievement for Tata, as it is their first all-wheel-drive option since the discontinuation of the Safari Storme in 2020. Due to its twin-motor setup, the Harrier EV has become the country’s initial mainstream electric vehicle with four-wheel drive capabilities.

Before today’s formal unveiling, Tata has shared a preview clip demonstrating the Harrier EV's prowess on rugged terrains. This sneak peek emphasized various attributes such as an off-road assistance mode—similar to an off-road crawl function maintaining a steady low pace—and a 360-degree camera feature providing what looks like see-through hood visibility, commonly found in upscale SUV models.

The video showcased specific driving modes for various terrains like Snow, Sand, and Rock Crawl, which can be accessed through a rotating dial on the central control panel. Additionally, there are Eco and Boost settings; the latter might function similarly to a lower gear range. On the other hand, the diesel Harrier offers Normal, Wet, and Rough modes.

Inside, the Harrier EV features a 12.3-inch infotainment touch screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, which appear to be carryovers from the internal combustion engine (ICE) variant. A quick look at the instrument display in the video indicated a range of approximately 560 kilometers when charged up to 90%.

Although specific details and prices have not been disclosed, Tata Motors is concentrating on boosting India’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure via its Open Collaboration 2.0 program. This strategy includes partnering with charge point operators (CPOs) and oil marketing companies (OMCs) to install 400,000 public charging stations by 2027. Srivatsa recognized the persistent “chicken-and-egg” dilemma concerning EV uptake and charging facilities; however, he noted that increasing consumer interest is catalyzing expansion within the private charging sector.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility maintains a strong presence in the Indian electric vehicle sector, having sold more than 200,000 electric cars since introducing the Nexon.ev back in 2020. With the introduction of the Harrier EV and the forthcoming Sierra.ev, Tata aims to bolster their expanding lineup of electric vehicles. This range currently encompasses models such as the Tiago.ev, Tigor.ev, Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, and Curvv.ev.
