With his deal with the Terrafirma Dyip approaching its end in August, Terrence Romeo stands at a critical juncture in his basketball journey—contemplating if he should stay within the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) or explore chances abroad.
Although he acknowledged receiving proposals from overseas clubs—which included inquiries from Japanese and Korean squads—the thrice-crowned PBA scorer emphasized that his loyalty still lies with the league where he grew up professionally.
"Magpapatunayan ko talaga ang priority ko, una akong gustong subukan dito sa atin, sa PBA. Nais kong pagyamanin ng oportunidad na makipag-usapan, kung mayroon tayong interesado, kung tutubos kami," ani Romeo habang nagsasalita sa isang pangyayari kasama ang bagong tagaganap ng ABCVIP.
The 33-year-old player, who is currently recuperating from a knee injury, hasn’t had formal talks with any PBA teams as he doesn’t have an agent right now. "I haven't been speaking officially with any of the PBA teams because I do not presently have an agent," he stated. "It’s just me doing the talking for now. We’ll see what happens."
Romeo mentioned that even though he received proposals from abroad, he would rather play somewhere he feels trusted and where he can make a significant impact.
Alamin lamang na kailangan mong may tao kang makakatiwala sayo. Siyang nananampalataya sa iyong kakayahán at kabilaan. Ganyan lang talaga 'yan.
However, if the PBA opportunity closes, Romeo stays receptive to other options.
Pagka-walang iba pang paraan, wala talisay nating maitutulong. Talakayan mong makahanap ng solusyon kung saan ka puwedeng umalaro. Dahil gustong-gusto kitang makasama. Mas bata pa sana pag-usapan natin ang pagsiguro.
In November 2024, Romeo was transferred to Terrafirma following his successful tenure with the San Miguel Beermen. However, he has had minimal playing time because of an injury. Although he isn’t anticipated to make a comeback until Terrafirma concludes their Philippine Cup run, he reassured supporters that he is concentrating on making a robust return.
Ang career ko ngayong pangunahing nagafocus ay basketball. Paano akong maaaring bumalik o paigtingin kaya naako noon—o higit pa. Ito ang layuning hinahanap ko.
Away from the courts, Romeo is also stepping into new territory. He was formally announced on June 1 as the inaugural brand ambassador for ABCVIP, a worldwide online gaming platform set to launch in the Philippines.
“My primary aim is to inspire and help young people. Discipline and self-confidence are crucial,” he stated, emphasizing his dedication to community involvement.
He likewise promoted discipline in online gaming: “There should be discipline when playing; don’t overdo it. Ensure that their means of living isn’t affected.”
Considering the recent personal hurdles and legal issues—which included taking a break from social media and facing earlier allegations related to a business conflict—Romeo highlighted the insights he has gained.
Need to be more cautious with people you trust. For now, I am focusing on my career and myself.
As August draws near, the adorned sentry keeps pondering his upcoming phase. Even though he stays optimistic about reclaiming a spot in the PBA, Terrence Romeo is also staying flexible—both mentally and on the basketball court.
