Vanishing Waves: Campers and VW Beetle Swallowed Up as Owners Disregarded Tide Warnings

Two campervans and a Volkswagen Beetle were submerged by fierce waves at a Welsh beach when their owners disregarded warnings about the rapidly incoming tide.

The cars met with the same unfortunate end just days apart at the picturesque Black Rock Sands near Porthmadog, resulting in losses amounting to tens of thousands of pounds.

On June 8, a VW camper van got submerged when left parked on the sand. Another campervan met the same fate on Friday the 13th.

A day after, a white convertible Volkswagen Beetle got drenched as well; however, it resurfaced the following morning.

Black Rock Sands is among the limited number of beaches in northern Wales where driving is permitted, yet its gradual slope causes the tide to rush in quickly.

Sandy areas that are waterlogged can swiftly immobilize vehicles, offering minimal opportunity for escape without assistance.

Local resident Kevin Gibson mentioned that he has witnessed numerous drivers frequently getting caught out.

He clarified: 'The municipal council levies a charge of £8.00 for parking vehicles.'

'It's among the rarest beaches where you can actually drive your vehicle.'

'It's very popular.

'People don't take notice.

When driving on the beach, they are cautioned against proceeding beyond the warning signs indicating soft sand and swift tides.

Sadly, we frequently witness vehicles being trapped due to these warnings being disregarded.

'I genuinely sympathize with the people; it is indeed a disgrace for them.'

Kevin Wardlaw, who noticed the camper van, remarked: "It’s clear to me how someone could get trapped here, though there are warning signs."
