Duwaji, who mostly stayed out of the limelight, gained attention when right-wing trolls criticized Mamdani for allegedly 'concealing his spouse' from New York City.

Normally, I ignore such comments, whether they involve death threats or demands for my deportation. But it takes on a new dimension when your loved ones are targeted,” the 33-year-old penned.

Earlier this year, the Indian-American legislator tied the knot with the Syrian artist at the City Clerk's office, as he later mentioned. Speaking to the residents of NYC, he stated that right-wing critics were shifting focus to his spouse in the middle of the mayoral campaign, whereas the discussions ought to center around the needs of the citizens.
"Mamma is not just my spouse; she is also an outstanding artist who should gain recognition based on her own merits. While you may question my opinions, you cannot criticize my family," Mamdani stated additionally.

Zohran and Rama supposedly had their initial encounter on the dating app Hinge, following which their romance began to flourish.
Who is Rama Duwaji?
A 28-year-old named Rama Duwaji is a Syrian artist specializing in illustration and animation, currently residing in Brooklyn, NYC. Her website states that she explores the intricacies of sisterhood and shared experiences through her work with hand-drawn portraits and motion.
Duwaji counts among its prominent clientele The New Yorker, The Washington Post, BBC, Apple, Spotify, VICE, and Tate Modern.
It is said that she takes time off from tech to make hand-crafted ceramics.

Recently, one of Rama Duwaji's illustrations focused on the continuing hunger crisis in Gaza. She added a caption saying, "While working on this piece, Israel has continuously bombarded Gaza with relentless airstrikes. Stay aware of what’s happening in Gaza."
After Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the New York City mayoral race, Rama Duwaji posted some images of her spouse and themselves on Instagram. She wrote, “There could not be greater pride.”
