Block Our Rivers, Risk War: Pakistan PM Issues Stark Warning to India

On July 4, during his speech at the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit held in Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered a strong message to India. He warned that any effort to obstruct or redirect Pakistan’s access to water would be regarded as an act of aggression. Highlighting the critical importance of water for Pakistan, he stressed that such moves could endanger regional harmony and security.

He charged India with intentionally carrying out provocative acts designed to undermine regional stability. Citing recent developments, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Pakistan Army, led by Field Marshal Asim Munir, demonstrated "remarkable courage and expertise" in countering Indian hostility. He stressed that Pakistan stands ready to safeguard its territorial integrity and assets with unwavering determination.

Addressing global matters, Prime Minister Shehbaz firmly denounced Israel's aggressive actions toward Iran and Gaza, describing them as baseless and cruel. He stated that Gaza is undergoing extreme destruction, with starvation, relentless bombing, and assaults on aid personnel wiping out all traces of compassion. He expressed sympathy for those affected and restated Pakistan’s firm solidarity with the peoples of Palestine and Iran.

The Prime Minister highlighted climate change as one of the gravest issues confronting Pakistan at present. He pointed out that Pakistan ranks within the world’s ten nations most susceptible to climate-related effects, experiencing problems such as glacier melt, severe temperatures, flooding, and increasing joblessness linked to ecological degradation. Nevertheless, he emphasized that authorities have formulated an extensive plan aimed at addressing and reducing these threats.

In closing his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized once again that Pakistan opposes oppression and injustice across the globe, be it in Indian Illegally Administered Jammu & Kashmir, Gaza, or any region affected by conflict. He urged the global community to unite in pursuit of peace, strengthen efforts for climate resilience, and safeguard fundamental human rights. His statement made clear: Pakistan refuses to remain indifferent or inactive when confronted with hostility or inequity—whether within its borders or beyond them.
