Mumbai, July 4 (PTI): On Friday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis came to the defense of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde regarding his "Jai Gujarat" comments made during an event held in Pune.
"Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra, Jai Gujarat," Shinde stated at the function, which was attended by Union Minister Amit Shah. Shah spoke to the audience in Gujarati.
"Just because Shinde exclaimed 'Jai Gujarat,' it doesn't imply that his love for Gujarat surpasses that for Maharashtra," Fadnavis said to journalists. "This kind of narrow-minded thinking does not suit the spirit of Marathi people," he further remarked.
Fadnavis mentioned how during the unveiling of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Chikodi in Karnataka, ex-Union Minister Sharad Pawar remarked with "Jai Maharashtra, Jai Karnataka."
"Is it being suggested that Sharad Pawar has greater affection for Karnataka compared to Maharashtra?" Fadnavis questioned. PTI ND VT VT
