PARIS: On Friday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a groundbreaking agreement between Airbus and Malaysia during his meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Paris.
Macron stated that these agreements emphasized the significance of trade relations between France and Asia, particularly as Europe prepares for potential tariffs under U.S. President Donald Trump.
"I'm referring to the agreements made in important mineral sectors like rare earth elements through our collaboration with Carester, who recently launched a facility in Lacq; also notable is cooperation within transportation thanks historically collaborative efforts linking Malaysian airlines alongside airbus as well positively impacting Energy Transition initiatives," stated Macron.
Airbus is nearing a deal with Malaysia Aviation Group for additional A330neo wide-body aircraft, according to industry insiders who spoke to Reuters earlier this week.
"Airbus has been our main priority. Malaysian Airlines has ordered 20, and AirAsia has taken up an additional 50," said Anwar.
