Liverpool are reported to have finalized an updated schedule specifying when players must arrive at the club's AXA Training Centre to begin preseason preparations, after the heartbreaking passing of Diogo Jota .

The initial group of returning players was originally set to start getting ready for the 2025–26 season last Friday, followed by additional arrivals planned for Monday.

However, those plans were postponed as the club mourned the loss of Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who both died in a car accident in the early hours of Thursday.

According to the Liverpool Echo , Reds manager Arne Slot Tuesday (July 8) has been confirmed as the revised starting date for pre-season, giving players and staff extra time to come to terms with and reflect on the heartbreaking announcement.

At the same time, the club is reportedly still deciding whether to go ahead with their initial preseason match against Preston North End, set for Sunday, July 13 at Deepdale.

Conversations are expected to happen after players resume training, leading to a choice determined through discussions with the team members.

Preston, as they gear up for the match preparations, plan to pay homage to Jota if the game proceeds as scheduled.

Most of Liverpool's senior squad flew to Portugal at the weekend for Jota and Silva's burial ceremony in Gondomar, where they joined loved ones and close associates to honor their memory.

Held just under two weeks following Jota's wedding, the ceremony featured heartfelt moments as his grieving wife, Rute, embraced his coffin.

Among those present at the event included current Liverpool standouts such as Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, and Alexis Mac Allister, alongside ex-players Jordan Henderson and James Milner.
