Actor Dino Morea Quizzed by Mumbai Police in Mithi River Scandal

Actor Dino Morea has been called upon by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police regarding the Mithi River desilting scandal. The case revolves around the suspected misappropriation of more than Rs 65 crores, funds that were initially set aside for the river cleanup—a vital channel for managing floods in Mumbai.

About the scam

The inquiry has revealed significant discrepancies such as exaggerated bids, forged paperwork, and payments processed for non-existent tasks. It appears that contractors provided fabricated weight measurement forms and journals, along with hiring equipment valued at Rs 3 crore at increased prices.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also joined the investigation, examining the broader financial network linked to the ₹1,100 crore de-siltation and river enhancement initiative.

Not only did the fraud lead to a significant depletion of public money, but it also put the city’s preparations for the monsoon season at risk since the Mithi River plays a crucial role in channeling away excess rainfall from lower regions. The investigation into this matter continues.
