China has congratulated Anthony Albanese for his government's huge election win.
"China expresses readiness to collaborate with the newly formed Australian administration headed by Prime Minister Albanese. Guided by the significant mutual understanding reached by both nations’ leaderships, they aim to further develop a more mature, stable, and fruitful comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Australia," stated the Chinese foreign ministry.
This was stated with the aim of 'enhancing benefits for both nations and their people, as well as contributing positively to regional and international peace and stability.'
China is Australia’s largest trade ally, and after securing the election victory, the role of Treasurer will be taken on by Jim Chalmers stated that the primary concern for the government was protecting Australia from the effects of the trade dispute between the United States and China.
Chalmers stated that the current emphasis is on worldwide economic instability, particularly the situation between the US and China, and how this affects us.

China has frozen diplomatic ties with Australia and imposed import restrictions on various Australian goods following former Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s call for an international investigation into the origin of COVID-19.

These issues spanned topics such as 'discriminatory assaults against Asians' to supporting the U.S., which Beijing alleges was part of a 'campaign against itself.'
However, ties strengthened during the Albanese administration, as import restrictions were slowly lifted.
