Elden Ring's Live-Action Movie Officially Greenlit: Promising Adaptation Ahead!

A movie adaptation of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring is underway, with George R.R. Martin joining as a producer.

After rumours emerged Earlier this month, FromSoftware confirmed its collaboration with A24 to produce a live-action movie based on their game. Elden Ring .

According to an official announcement via a press statement, Alex Garland has been slated to both pen and helm this new venture. Renowned primarily for his directorial work on movies such as Ex Machina, Annihilation, and the recent iteration of Civil War, Garland has additionally taken up writing duties for multiple projects associated with Danny Boyle, notably including Sunshine, 28 Days Later, along with its highly anticipated follow-up, 28 Years Later.

Garland has worked on video games also, having served as a co-writer for 2010’s Enslaved: Odyssey To The West and as a story supervisor for 2013’s DmC: Devil May Cry.

George R.R. Martin, who collaborated with the game’s director Hidetaka Miyazaki on Elden Ring’s storyline, will serve as a producer for the movie adaptation. Joining him are Vince Gerardis, known for his work on Game of Thrones; Peter Rice; and producers Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA Films.

Interestingly, Miyazaki’s name doesn’t appear here, indicating his lack of involvement. Talking to The Guardian last year, he expressed his interest in making a film adaptation of Elden Ring but said he doesn’t think he has the ‘knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium’.
