Rapper Betty Boo Vows Not to "Fade Away" in Her 50s as She Prepares for Tour

Rapper Betty Boo has stated that she didn’t wish to "disappear quietly" in her fifties, as she embarks on her first tour in over thirty years.

The Scottish-Malaysian singer-songwriter, Alison Clarkson, aged 55, is renowned for her 1990s chart-topping song, Doin' The Do, and her inaugural album, Boomania.

Speaking to The Times She mentioned that she didn’t believe she would reach 50 years old, following the loss of her parents at an early age.

She is embarking on a tour to mark 35 years since her popular song "Doin' The Do" initially came out.

Clarkson mentioned, "Upon arriving, I experienced what numerous women feel during that stage of life; the desire not to merely disappear, to avoid settling and wanting to remain visible."

The question was, how would Betty Boo react at age 50? Would she remain spirited? Actually, once I began writing from my own perspective, I could tap into my younger self.

It's wild that I'm embarking on my inaugural tour at 55, yet why not? I enjoy challenges and relish the fact that I still haven't found my place.

"You can now experience 90s tours, and it’s entirely that Britpop The 1980s tours featured electronic bands such as the Human League.

I hail from that thrilling era which reshaped the course of popular culture. Nobody has managed to confine me within limits. And I wouldn’t want it differently.

Clarkson's rapid ascent to stardom in the 90s was followed equally swiftly by a decline when her second album, released in 1992 and named GRRR!, failed to replicate the success of Boomania.

At the time, she was grappling with significant sorrow, having lost her father in the 1980s and looking after her terminally ill mother during the peak of her career. Additionally, she took care of her nanny.

She stated, "I never imagined reaching 50 since none of my parents managed to."

That's one of the reasons I chose not to have kids. I didn't want anybody to experience what I went through.

“My priorities completely changed.

Without getting too heavy, a piece of me felt dead inside. Being a pop star didn’t seem right at this moment. My mind was preoccupied with all the sorrow.

The artist is also responsible for the popular tracks "Hey DJ – I Can’t Dance To That Music" featuring The Beatmasters, as well as "Where Are You Baby?"

She has put out two additional albums since the 1990s: "Boomerang," which dropped in 2022, and "Rip Up The Rulebook," released just last year.

In 1991, she won the award for Best British Newcomer at the Brit Awards.

The Betty Boo Boomania 35 tour begins on June 5, featuring performances across various locations. Edinburgh , Cambridge and Southampton.
