Inzaghi Departs Inter After Devastating Champions League Final Loss

MILAN: After suffering an embarrassing 5-0 defeat in the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, which concluded a season without silverware, Simone Inzaghi has stepped down from his role as head coach at Inter Milan. The announcement was made by the Serie A team on Tuesday.

Inter had a disappointing conclusion to their season as their heavy defeat in Munich followed finishing runners-up in Serie A, just one point shy of champion Napoli, and being eliminated from the Coppa Italia semi-finals with an overall score of 4-1 against local foes AC Milan.

Inter face a race against time to appoint a new manager before the Club World Cup, with their campaign getting underway against Mexican side Monterrey on June 17.

"The moment has arrived for me to bid farewell to this club following a four-year tenure, throughout which I poured my all into it," Inzaghi stated separately.

Inzaghi claimed six titles with Inter: one Serie A championship, two victories in the Coppa Italia, and three wins in the Italian Supercup.

"I wish to devote my final words to the millions of Inter (Nerazzurri) supporters who encouraged me, shed tears and endured tough times with us, as well as rejoiced and celebrated during our six shared victories," he concluded.

I will always remember you.

Reports from Italy suggest that Inzaghi is set to sign with Saudi Arabia’s Pro League team Al-Hilal and will be at their helm for the Club World Cup in the United States.

Inter confirmed that the choice for Inzaghi to depart from the club was made by joint consent earlier today.

"I want to express my gratitude to Simone Inzaghi for his efforts, the enthusiasm he displayed, and also for the honesty during our meeting today, which resulted in both parties agreeing to go their separate ways," stated club president Giuseppe Marotta.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Cesc Fabregas from Como and Roberto De Zerbi of Olympique de Marseille are being considered as possible replacements for Inzaghi at Inter Milan.

A number of managers have departed from their respective teams following the conclusion of the Serie A season.

After guiding Lazio to a underwhelming seventh-place conclusion, Marco Baroni departed from the club, which then set the stage for Maurizio Sarri's comeback exactly one year following his resignation.

After confirming his exit on Saturday, Atalanta are now looking for a new coach following Gian Piero Gasperobi's departure.

Massimiliano Allegri returned for his second tenure as AC Milan’s head coach on Friday following the dismissal of Sergio Conceição. The decision came at the end of a disappointing season where they failed to secure qualification for any European competitions.
