Savor the Prizes: Baguio-Tagaytay Set for the PhilCycling Classic

MANILA, Philippines – The champion will receive a prize of ₱100,000 from the overall cash fund of ₱870 million in the Baguio-Tagaytay PhilCycling Classic—a record-breaking 292-kilometer road race set for June 23. The event will start at Camp John Hay and conclude along Crisanto de los Reyes Avenue, directly in front of the newly constructed Tagaytay City Velodrome.

A contest of speed, stamina, and every skill an elite cyclist possesses from their repertoire,” stated Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, who serves as both the president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and PhilCycling, along with being the mayor of Tagaytay City—the organizers behind this event featuring the leading 30 competitors from the Tour of Luzon: The Great Revival held during the previous summer.

The second-place winner will receive ₱75,000, and the third-place contender will get ₱70,000. Additionally, the participant who finishes last will take home a consolation prize of ₱5,000 in this event organized jointly with the Metro Pacific Tollroads Corporation led by Manny V. Pangilinan and the San Miguel Corporation Infrastructure headed by Ramon S. Ang.

This milestone event represents the first instance in Philippine cycling where a race will traverse the key expressways such as TPLEX, SCTEx, NLEX, SkyWay, SLEX, and CaLax, along with the Cavite East West Lateral Road, concluding at the newly built Tagaytay City Velodrome which meets UCI standards for an indoor track measuring 250 meters made of wood.

The 10 sprints on the expressways will provide a prize of ₱10,000 to the first one across the finish line, adding up to a totalbonus of ₱100,000 for the event scheduled as part of the joint celebration of Olympic Day, World Bicycle Day, the opening of thevelodrome, and Tagaytay City’s 87th Charter Day Anniversary this comingSaturday (June 21).

The event held in collaboration with Duckworld PH, Camp John Hay, Milo, Oishi, Smart, and Toyota on Monday featured the contract signings for Filipino athletes participating in the Olympic Solidarity scholarship program aimed at supporting them for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
