Authorities have confirmed two fatalities following the sinking of a ferry with numerous passengers near the coastline of Bali.
The ship, traveling from Ketapang Port in East Java to Gilimanuk Port in Bali, allegedly experienced a severe leak in its engine compartment, resulting in total loss of power and ultimately overturning.
According to local media, the ferry sent out a distress call at 12:16 am yesterday evening, and another vessel nearby attempted to approach and assist.
Although immediate action was taken, the boat was discovered capsized and floating southwards at around 12:22am.
Two individuals have been confirmed deceased, and 16 others have been rescued thus far.
It is thought that the ferry was transporting approximately 53 passengers, along with 12 crew members and 22 vehicles.
This heartbreaking event occurs nearly one month following A sightseeing vessel with 89 passengers aboard overturned near the shores of Nusa Lembongan Island in Bali.
The vessel had only departed from Lembongan Village around 4:30 pm when it was struck from behind by a large wave, leading to water entering the boat.
