A troll who posted a sexist and absurd remark on social media, questioning Bollywood actress and Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta regarding Glenn Maxwell's underwhelming performance during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), was promptly confronted by her. Unhesitatingly, Zinta retorted, wondering whether the troll would have posed such a query to a male team owner instead.
On Tuesday, Preity Zinta conducted an 'Ask Me Anything' (AMA) session on X (previously known as Twitter). During this event, one user asked if the reason behind Glenn Maxwell’s underperformance could be attributed to her not having married him. Responding with firmness, Zinta rejected the query for its sexist and absurd nature. The renowned actress further called for an end to gender discrimination on social platforms and asserted her right to respectful treatment.
"Madam, was Maxwell not more successful with your team because he didn’t wed you?" the troll posted before subsequently removing the message.
"Were you planning to pose this question to male team owners from other squads as well, or is such discrimination specific to women alone? It wasn’t until I ventured into the realm of cricket that I fully grasped the challenges faced by women trying to thrive in professional environments. While I’m certain you meant this lightheartedly, perhaps spend some time reconsidering your query and contemplating the implications behind it—because once understood, they aren’t particularly flattering," Zinta responded.
"I feel I have proven myself over the last 18 years through diligent work, thus I request you acknowledge my efforts and cease this gender bias. Thanks," she concluded.
Despite stepping onto the field for seven matches, Glenn Maxwell managed only 48 runs, bringing down his average to eight per game—a disappointing performance overall. Adding to his woes, he contributed merely 52 runs across ten appearances for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the 2024 season, extending his poor run in the Indian Premier League.
In the meantime, since acquiring Punjab Kings at the inception of the league in 2008, Preity Zinta has become one of the most experienced team proprietors in the IPL.
